Pennsylvania American Water Begins $2 Million Sewer Line Upgrade Project in Scranton and Dunmore

SCRANTON, Pa. (March 6, 2025) – Pennsylvania American Water today announced sewer line upgrades along several streets in the City of Scranton and Dunmore Borough. The upgrades, which began last month and cost approximately $2 million, include replacing more than 3,200 feet of sewer pipe in the collection system.

Work is scheduled along the following streets:

  • Scranton
    • Diamond Ave. (from Foster St. to Court St.)
    • Pittston Ave. (from Birch St. to Willow St.)
    • Pittston Ave. (from O’Hara St. to Ripple St.)
  • Dunmore
    • Woodlawn Ave. (from Jefferson Ave. to Gillet Lane)

Final restoration and paving on all streets is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

This infrastructure upgrade project is not only an important investment in public health and safety, it also helps support the economic health of the community. Economic impact studies show that for every $1 million invested in water infrastructure, upwards of 15 jobs are generated throughout the economy. Statewide, Pennsylvania American Water invested approximately $675 million in 2024 alone to improve our water and wastewater treatment and pipeline systems, supporting more than 10,125 jobs through these continued investments.
