Pennsylvania American Water Upgrades Sadsbury Township Pump Station

COATESVILLE, Pa. (July 17, 2025) – Pennsylvania American Water recently announced that it will soon complete a $2.2 million project to upgrade a pump station in Sadsbury Township, Chester County, that will improve wastewater service quality and reliability for customers in the area.

“This rehabilitation project included upgraded pumps, electrical enhancements and a complete wet well renewal,” said Kelly Jacunski, engineering project manager for Pennsylvania American Water. “The station was outdated and undersized, and this work brings it up to today’s standards to better serve our customers and help protect the environment.”

During the upgrade, the company relocated the wet well, a holding tank for wastewater before treatment, to a more accessible location. This change simplifies maintenance and helps keep the system running reliably, according to Jacunski.

Constructed before Pennsylvania American Water acquired the system, the existing Sadsbury pump station had significant structural and mechanical deficiencies and was no longer sufficient to meet system demands.

Construction on the project started in late July 2024, and the upgraded station was operational in April 2025. The pump station serves Sadsbury and West Caln townships, as well as parts of Valley Township.

This infrastructure upgrade project is not only an important investment in public health and safety, it also helps support the economic health of the community. Economic impact studies show that for every $1 million invested in water infrastructure, upwards of 15 jobs are generated throughout the economy. Statewide, Pennsylvania American Water invested approximately $675 million in 2024 alone to improve its water and wastewater treatment and pipeline systems, supporting more than 10,125 jobs through these continued investments.
