Press Releases
Kentucky American Water has announced an additional $4.8 million in water main improvement projects in Lexington, including water mains on portions of South Upper St. and High St. As part of the company’s ongoing commitment to providing safe, clean and reliable water service, the company’s contractors will soon begin replacing water mains on these streets:
- Ashland Terrace
- Hagerman Ct.
- High St., between Rose St. and South Mill St.
- Lexington Ave., between East High St. and East Maxwell St.
- North Broadway Park, closest to North Limestone
- South Ashland Ave., from Ashland Terrace to just past Euclid Ave.
- South Upper St., between Colfax St. and Cedar St.
Aging, cast iron water mains on these streets will be replaced with new, ductile iron pipe as part of the company’s Qualified Infrastructure Program (QIP). This work will improve service reliability for customers by reducing service disruptions as well as by maintaining and improving water quality. In addition to replacing water mains, contractors will also replace fire hydrants, valves, meters and utility-owned service lines along the route.
The company’s contractor crews plan to perform work as weather and other factors permit according to the following schedules:
- South Upper St., from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday through Friday.
- Other roadways listed, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday
Work will be done so that rolling progress is made until all main is replaced. Final paving and other final restoration of areas impacted by the project will follow.
To support the safety of the public and workers, traffic restrictions and/or alternating traffic patterns may occur during work hours. Kentucky American Water values the safety of its teams and advises drivers and pedestrians to reduce speed and use extra caution when traveling through work zones.
