[Greenwood, Ind. November 20, 2025] – The American Water Charitable Foundation, a philanthropic non-profit organization established by American Water (NYSE: AWK), the largest regulated water and wastewater utility company in the U.S., and Indiana American Water announced today that the Foundation has awarded $34,000 in State Strategic Impact grants to five Indiana-based community food distribution centers. These organizations provide direct support for hunger relief efforts in their local communities.
The following agencies received funding:
- Food Bank of Northwest Indiana, Merrillville – $10,000
- Second Harvest Food Bank, Muncie – $7,000
- Catholic Charities of Terre Haute Foodbank – $7,000
- Food Finders Food Bank, Lafayette – $5,000
- Great Harvest Food Pantry, New Whiteland/Greenwood – $5,000
“We’re so grateful to Indiana American Water and the American Water Charitable Foundation for their generous support at a time when it’s needed most. With food insecurity on the rise and continued uncertainty around government programs, too many families are struggling to keep food on the table. This grant helps us meet that growing need and reminds our community that we’re in this together. When partners like Indiana American Water step forward, it strengthens our ability to serve and gives hope to those who need it most,” said John C. Etling, Agency Director, Catholic Charities Terre Haute.
In today’s economic climate, food banks are experiencing heightened demand driven by inflation, delays in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, and the traditional surge during the holiday season. These challenges have left many families struggling to access basic necessities. Funding from organizations like the American Water Charitable Foundation helps bridge the gap, ensuring that food distribution centers can continue to serve vulnerable populations with dignity and consistency.
“Supporting food security is a critical part of building resilient communities. We’re proud to work alongside the American Water Charitable Foundation to help ensure that families across Indiana have access to the resources they need. These grants reflect our commitment to making a meaningful impact where our employees and customers live and work,” said Barry Suits, President, Indiana American Water.
The State Strategic Impact grant is part of the 2025 Keep Communities Flowing Grant Program, which focuses on three pillars of giving: Water, People, and Communities. These grants support high-impact projects and initiatives across American Water’s national footprint.
“The American Water Charitable Foundation is pleased to partner with organizations that align with Indiana American Water and support food insecurity efforts in the Hoosier State,” said Carrie Williams, President of the American Water Charitable Foundation.
