Pennsylvania American Water to Replace Water Mains in Green Tree and Crafton

125 customer connections to benefit from one mile of replaced water main

PITTSBURGH, Pa. (December 12, 2025) – Pennsylvania American Water today announced the start of water main replacement projects in Crafton and Green Tree boroughs to improve reliability and increase water flow for household use and firefighting. The more than $2 million infrastructure investment will replace nearly one mile of aging water main serving approximately 125 customer connections.

“We are continuously evaluating our system to prioritize infrastructure improvements that enable us to continue delivering the high quality, reliable water service our customers deserve,” said Eric Beringer, project manager for Pennsylvania American Water. “By replacing aging infrastructure in the South Hills of Allegheny County, we’re delivering on our commitment to keep life flowing for customers now and into the future.”

Contractors will be working in the following areas starting in mid-December to replace old water mains dating from the 1950s and 1970s with new ductile iron pipes:

Crafton Borough

  • Locust Street (from Marion Street to the end of the street)
  • Taylor Street (from Broadhead Avenue to North Grandview Avenue)

 Green Tree Borough

  • Sheldon Avenue, Ramey Drive and Carol Place (from 200 Sheldon Ave. to Rhodes Avenue)

Crews will work on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Traffic restrictions will be in place during construction. Service transfers to the new main and final street restoration is expected to be completed in spring 2026.

During construction, customers might experience temporary service interruptions, discolored water and/or lower than normal water pressure. Crews will work as quickly as possible to shorten the length of these temporary inconveniences. For more information, customers may contact Pennsylvania American Water’s Customer Service Organization at 1-800-565-7292.

This infrastructure upgrade project is not only an important investment in public health and safety, it also helps support the economic health of the community. Economic impact studies show that for every $1 million invested in water infrastructure, upwards of 15 jobs are generated throughout the economy. Statewide, Pennsylvania American Water invested approximately $675 million in 2024 alone to improve its water and wastewater treatment and pipeline systems, supporting more than 10,125 jobs through these continued investments.
