Press Releases
BUTLER, Pa. (Dec. 18, 2025) – Pennsylvania American Water has begun a multi-million infrastructure improvement project in Alameda Park to strengthen wastewater service and advance watershed protection efforts.
The project will replace approximately 3,700 feet of aging wastewater main with a larger, more reliable line to improve sewage flow and reduce stormwater infiltration. Upgrades include 20 new manholes and a specialized bore under Route 422 to install the new line without disturbing the highway.
“The project delivers important environmental benefits by reducing stormwater inflow and infiltration, which helps prevent sewer overflows,” said Jake Gentile, senior director of operations for Pennsylvania American Water. “It also enhances system reliability to protect Sullivan Run and nearby recreation areas, while supporting cleaner waterways.”
Construction will occur in lower Alameda Park, which will be closed to vehicle traffic during work. Major construction is expected to finish by spring, with full completion scheduled for June 2026. The project is timed to minimize disruption to Alameda Park and surrounding businesses.
Pennsylvania American Water plans to invest approximately $75 million during the next five years to upgrade the BASA wastewater treatment and collection systems. These upgrades include replacing pump stations, improving electrical safety and treatment procedures, conducting systemwide assessments and inspections and cleaning and rehabilitating sewer collection mains and manholes.
