Press Releases
CAMDEN, N.J. – April 7, 2026 – New Jersey American Water is launching an $8.8 million water system improvement project in Long Branch starting this month. This project is part of the company’s long-term commitment to upgrading aging infrastructure across the more than 190 communities it serves in New Jersey, including continued investments throughout Monmouth County.
“This is a substantial investment in the future of Long Branch’s water system,” said Paul Morales, superintendent of field operations for New Jersey American Water’s Shrewsbury Operating Center. “Upgrading older mains and reinforcing the system at this scale will benefit customers for generations to come by improving service reliability, supporting water quality and enhancing fire flow throughout the community.”
The work is taking place in the West End section of Long Branch, a residential and commercial area that provides quick access to Cottage Place and Long Branch beaches, dining and local amenities. Strengthening infrastructure in this part of the city will help support daily activity and seasonal demand while improving overall system performance for nearby homes and businesses.
The project will replace approximately two and a half miles of water main installed in the 1930s with new 8-inch ductile iron water main, modernizing infrastructure that has served the community for nearly a century.
Work will take place along the following streets:
• Howland Avenue (from Ocean Avenue to Second Avenue)
• Passey Gardens
• Hollywood Avenue (from Hoey Avenue to Monmouth Place)
• Lenox Avenue
• Woodgate Avenue (from Lenox Avenue to Cedar Avenue)
• High Street (from Wardell Place to Bath Avenue)
• Montgomery Avenue
• North Bath Avenue (from Ocean Avenue to Coral Place)
• Hoey Street (from West End Avenue to Brighton Avenue)
• Eastbourne Avenue
• Matilda Terrace (from Sairs Avenue to Second Avenue)
• West End Avenue (from Norwood Avenue to Foy Lane)
Weather permitting, construction is expected to begin on or around April 13, 2026, and continue through the end of September 2026. Crews will work Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and weekend work is not anticipated unless needed to maintain the project schedule.
The project will be performed by New Jersey American Water’s qualified contractor, Montana Construction, Inc., with traffic control coordinated in partnership with local officials to support safe travel around work areas. Access to homes and driveways will be maintained throughout construction. Daily cleanup will occur, and where excavation is required, temporary restoration will be installed. Permanent restoration will follow once the soil has settled, typically about 90 days after project completion.
