Press Releases
CAMDEN, N.J. – April 16, 2026 – New Jersey American Water recently completed significant upgrades to its water system in the downtown Bernardsville area, delivering on a planned $1.5 million infrastructure investment which began earlier this year to strengthen service reliability and support longterm system performance.
The project included the installation of approximately 300 feet of new water main, which required boring beneath the New Jersey Transit railway tracks near the Bernardsville train station and Mt. Airy Road. The work enhances system resiliency, improves redundancy, and helps ensure consistent water pressure and fire flow capability for residents and businesses in the downtown area.
“This project represents a major investment in strengthening our water system in Bernardsville,” said Ian Doyle, construction superintendent for Short Hills Operations Center, New Jersey American Water. “By completing this work as planned, we’re better positioned to provide reliable, high‑quality water service while supporting the community’s current and future needs.”
Construction was completed in late March, and portions of the New Jersey Transit parking which were closed during the project have fully reopened and are accessible to the public. Temporary pavement and striping have been placed at excavation locations to allow for proper settlement, with final restoration scheduled to take place in fall 2026, consistent with the original project timeline.
The Bernardsville investment is part of New Jersey American Water’s ongoing, multiyear effort to modernize aging water infrastructure across the state. The company continues to invest millions of dollars annually to replace aging water mains, helping to improve reliability, safety, and service continuity in more than 190 communities statewide.
New Jersey American Water thanks residents, local businesses, and commuters for their patience and cooperation throughout this important project.
