New Jersey American Water to Invest $2.9 Million in Water System Upgrades in Chester Township and Peapack Gladstone

CAMDEN, N.J. – April 29, 2026 New Jersey American Water is investing $2.9 million to upgrade aging water infrastructure in Chester Township and Peapack‑Gladstone, helping to improve service reliability and increase water flows for customers and firefighters. This project is part of the company’s long-term commitment to upgrading aging infrastructure across the more than 190 communities it serves in New Jersey.

The project includes replacing about 4,500 feet of aging 8-inch cast iron water main, originally installed in the 1930s, with new 8-inch and 12-inch ductile iron water main. In addition, New Jersey American Water will replace 43 utility-owned service lines, upgrade seven fire hydrants, and connect the new main to existing water mains at cross streets along the project route, modernizing infrastructure that has served the community for nearly a century.

Work will take place along the following streets:

  • Old Chester Road (from Brook Hollow Drive to St Bernards Road)
  • Farm Cottage Road (from Old Chester Road to Cul-De-Sac)
  • Pfizer Drive (from Farm Cottage Road to Old Chester Road)

Work began earlier this week and is expected to be completed by the end of June

2026. Crews will work Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on town roads, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on county roads. Work on weekends is not expected, unless required to maintain the project schedule.

The project will be performed by New Jersey American Water’s qualified contractor, CRJ Contractors, with traffic control coordinated in partnership with local officials to support safe travel around work areas. Access to homes and driveways will be maintained throughout construction. Daily cleanup will occur, and where excavation is required, temporary restoration will be installed. Permanent restoration will follow once the soil has settled, typically about 90 days after project completion.
