Missouri American Water Announces Over $1.1 Billion Invested in Statewide Infrastructure Upgrades

Srengthening System Reliability and Water Quality for Customers

ST. LOUIS, MO – April 30, 2026 – Missouri American Water announced today its 2023-2025 summary of investments for system improvements, totaling more than $1.1 billion in water and wastewater system upgrades throughout its service area across Missouri.

“Delivering safe, clean and reliable water and wastewater service requires consistent, proactive investment in our systems,” said Rich Svindland, President of Missouri American Water. “These investments are focused on strengthening reliability, modernizing aging infrastructure, and minimizing service disruptions for our customers across the state. By continuing to invest in our systems today, we are helping deliver resilient, high-quality service for the communities we serve well into the future.”

Annual investments support critical upgrades throughout the company’s water and wastewater systems, including treatment plants, tanks, pump stations, pipelines, and metering equipment.

System improvement highlights include:

  • St. Louis County - Replacement of the intake pump station at the South Water Treatment Plant   
  • Jefferson City - Construction of a new filter and chemical feed building at the water treatment plant   
  • St. Joseph - Transmission main and booster station capacity upgrades    
  • Joplin – Construction of a new carbon feed system at the treatment plant and well site treatment upgrades  
  • Eureka, Smithton – Wastewater treatment plant upgrades including construction of new lift station and UV disinfection. 
  • Statewide – over 250 miles of aging water and wastewater pipes to reduce main breaks and sewer overflows.

Missouri American Water continues to make long-term investments in the communities it serves, modernizing aging infrastructure to strengthen service for residents, with over $500 million planned in 2026. These proactive capital investments play a critical role in sustaining system reliability and helping to ensure high-quality water and wastewater service.
