Targeted inspections and cleaning will help reduce overflows while supporting long‑term watershed protection
BUTLER, Pa. (May 1, 2026) – Pennsylvania American Water has launched a $3 million Butler wastewater system inspection project to help reduce overflows, protect the watershed and ensure reliable service for customers.
“By finding and fixing issues early, we can keep wastewater service running smoothly for our customers,” said Michelle Cavallo, wastewater operations manager for Pennsylvania American Water. “It’s one of several improvements underway to strengthen service in Butler County.”
The first phase of the project included analysis from approximately 45 flow monitors throughout the collection system.
Crews are inspecting pipes and manholes using cameras to identify needed improvements. There will be no digging or service interruptions, but brief traffic restrictions may occur.
Work will occur in the City of Butler and in portions of East Butler Borough, as well as in Butler, Center, Connoquenessing, Oakland and Summit townships. Contractors will use door hangers to notify customers within their work areas.
Crews will work on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., with most inspections taking place within the public street throughway. In some cases, access to manholes on private property through a designated utility easement(s) may be needed.
Pennsylvania American Water is investing approximately $75 million over five years to enhance wastewater service in Butler County, upgrading infrastructure to better protect local waterways and provide reliable, dependable service for customers.
