$2.8 Snyder Hill Road project to enhance service and reliability for residents and visitors
PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (June 12, 2026) – Pennsylvania American Water announced today a $2.8 million project to expand public water service to the Snyder Hill area in Young Township, Jefferson County. The project will improve service and reliability for residents and provide service at the site of the annual Groundhog Day celebration, where thousands gather each year to watch Punxsutawney Phil’s weather prediction.
"Bringing water service to Gobbler’s Knob is an important milestone for our community,” said Katie Laska, Board of Directors president for the Punxsutawney Chamber of Commerce. “This investment not only strengthens our local water system, but it also supports a destination that is central to Punxsutawney’s identity, enhancing tourism and preserving a tradition that draws visitors from across the region each year.”
Construction is underway along Altman Avenue Extension, Peden Park Drive, Snyder Hill Road and Woodland Avenue Extension and is expected to be completed by the end of summer, with final street restoration in fall 2026.
Construction work is scheduled from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Evening or weekend work is not expected but may be required to keep the project on schedule. During the project, customers may experience traffic disruptions or service interruptions. Pennsylvania American Water crews will work to minimize these challenges and appreciates the community’s patience during this upgrade.
