New Jersey American Water to Invest $1.6 Million in Water System Upgrades in Springfield

CAMDEN, N.J. – Aug. 20, 2026 New Jersey American Water is investing approximately $1.6 million in water infrastructure improvements in Springfield to help improve service reliability, increase water flows for customers and firefighters, and continue providing safe, reliable water service. This project is part of the company’s long-term commitment to upgrading aging infrastructure across the more than 190 communities it serves in New Jersey.

The project includes replacing about a half a mile of aging water main with new 8-inch ductile iron pipe. The project also includes replacing three fire hydrants and renewing 74 existing customer service lines.

As part of this work, if lead or galvanized piping is identified, New Jersey American Water will work with the property owner to replace the entire service line from the curb to the home as part of a statewide initiative to remove lead and galvanized service lines by 2031.

Work will take place along the following streets:

  • Colfax Road, from Short Hills Avenue to Denham Road
  • Denham Road, from Morrison Road to the dead end
  • Donna Road, from Denham Road to the dead end

Weather permitting, work is expected to begin on or around Aug. 24, 2026, and continue through the end of October. Crews are expected to work Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Weekend work is not anticipated unless necessary to maintain the project schedule.

The project will be performed by New Jersey American Water's qualified contractor, CRJ Contracting Corp., with traffic control coordinated in partnership with local officials to support safe travel around work areas. Access to homes and driveways will be maintained throughout construction. Daily cleanup will occur, and where excavation is required, temporary restoration will be installed. Permanent restoration will follow once the soil has settled, typically about 90 days after project completion.
