Valve replacement project to begin Wednesday, September 2nd
JEFFERSON CITY, MO. (September 1, 2026) – Beginning Wednesday, September 2nd, Missouri American Water will replace water valves on McCarty and Bolivar Streets to help maintain safe, reliable water service for customers. The work will require a temporary road closure for approximately one month.
The valves being replaced date back to the 1940’s and 1960’s. Valves are a critical part of the water system as they serve as a control center for the movement of water throughout the underground pipes. They can be operated to isolate water main breaks to minimize service interruptions to residents and businesses and can also help to maintain water system pressure.
Bolivar Street will be closed to northbound traffic at the entrance to the Courtyard by Marriot hotel, with traffic re-routed on Missouri Boulevard. Westbound and eastbound McCarty Street traffic will be reduced to single lanes. Drivers are encouraged to avoid this area if possible. When traveling in or near the road closure, drivers should approach with caution, pay attention to detour signs and avoid distracted driving.
The project is scheduled to begin Wednesday, September 2nd, at 7:00 a.m. and is expected to be completed by the end of September, weather permitting. Drivers are encouraged to avoid the intersection during this time. Those traveling nearby should slow down and avoid distractions.
