New Jersey American Water continues infrastructure investments across its footprint
CAMDEN, N.J. – Sept. 17, 2026 – Washington Borough customers will soon benefit from an $800,000 water infrastructure improvement project as New Jersey American Water replaces aging water main along West Warren Street, from Grand Avenue to Belvidere Avenue. The project will help improve water service reliability and increase water flow for customers and firefighters. This project is part of the company’s long-term commitment to upgrading aging infrastructure across the more than 190 communities it serves in New Jersey.
"Investments like this help us continue providing safe and reliable water service for Washington Borough customers," said Ian Doyle, construction superintendent for New Jersey American Water. "Replacing aging infrastructure today helps strengthen the water system and support the community's future needs." As part of this work, if lead or galvanized piping is identified, New Jersey American Water will work with the property owner to replace the entire service line from the curb to the home as part of a statewide initiative to remove lead and galvanized service lines by 2031.
The work includes replacing over a quarter-mile of aging 4-inch cast iron water main dating back to the 1930s with new 8-inch ductile iron pipe. The project also includes renewing customer water service lines, fire hydrants and valves.
Weather permitting, construction is expected to begin on or around Sept. 21, 2026, and continue through the end of November. Crews will work Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Work outside those hours is not expected unless necessary to maintain the project schedule. The project will be completed by New Jersey American Water’s qualified contractor, Skoda Contracting, and traffic management will be coordinated with local officials to help maintain safe travel through the work area.
