Things That Should Never Go Down Your Drain
Things That Should Never Go Down Your Drain

Fats, Oils, and Grease (FOGs) are common household waste products that can wreak havoc on plumbing systems when improperly disposed of and poured down the drain. These substances solidify over time, causing stubborn blockages in pipes and possibly leading to costly repairs. By disposing of FOGs responsibly—using grease containers and avoiding the drain—you can protect your plumbing and your wallet as well as contribute to a healthier sewer system. Staying informed and mindful practices are key to keeping your home’s plumbing running smoothly and sustainably.

Here are some key points to keep in mind:

Avoid Pouring Fat, Oil or Grease Down the Drain
These substances can solidify and cause blockages in your pipes, leading to costly repairs and potential damage to the sewer treatment facility.

Dispose of Used Wet Wipes Properly
Wet wipes should never be flushed down the toilet, even if they’re labeled “flushable”, as they don’t  break down like toilet paper and can cause significant blockages in the sewer system.

Use a Grease Container
Collect grease and oil in a container and dispose of it in the trash once it solidifies. This prevents it from entering the plumbing system and causing blockages.

Throw Paper Towels and Napkins in the Trash
Similar to wet wipes, paper towels and napkins should be disposed of in the trash rather than flushed down the toilet to avoid clogging the pipes.

Spread the word and help educate others on the appropriate disposal methods for these items to prevent blockages and maintain a functional plumbing system.
