Tennessee American Water Announces Over $42 Million Invested in 2025 Statewide Infrastructure Upgrades

Strengthening System Reliability and Water Quality for Customers

Chattanooga, TN – FEBRUARY 26, 2026 – Tennessee American Water announced today its 2025 summary of investments for system improvements, totaling more than $42 million in water system upgrades throughout its service area across Tennessee.

“Delivering safe, clean and reliable water service requires consistent, proactive investment in our systems,” said Grant Evitts, President of Tennessee American Water. “These investments are focused on strengthening reliability, modernizing aging infrastructure, and minimizing service disruptions for our customers. By continuing to invest in our systems today, we are helping deliver resilient, high-quality service for the communities we serve well into the future.”

Annual investments support critical upgrades throughout the company’s service districts, including treatment plants, tanks, pump stations, pipelines, and metering equipment.

2025 investment highlights include:

  • Lookout Valley River Crossing
Tennessee American Water installed 7,200 feet of 16‑inch water main extending from the City of Chattanooga’s Moccasin Bend Environmental Campus across the Tennessee River to Browns Ferry Road. This new river crossing will provide customers in St. Elmo, Lookout Valley, and the Black Creek areas with an additional feed, increasing system resiliency, reliability, and redundancy.
  • Whitwell Water Treatment Plant Storage Expansion
Two new storage tanks at the Whitwell Water Treatment Plant replaced aging infrastructure and added 785,000 gallons of capacity—boosting overall storage by more than 50%. The upgrades strengthen operational reliability to meet demand during peak usage and emergency conditions.
  • Citico Water Treatment Plant Switchgear Replacement
The Citico Water Treatment Plant is undergoing a major electrical reliability upgrade via the replacement of an aging switchgear, motor control center, and other critical electrical components at the Citico Pump Station. The project enhances resiliency with improved power management, enhances safety during operations and maintenance, and adds capability for utilizing generator power during power outages.

Tennessee American Water continues to make long-term investments in the communities it serves, modernizing aging infrastructure to strengthen service for residents. These proactive capital investments play a critical role in sustaining system reliability and helping to ensure high-quality water service.
