Press Releases
Alexandria, VA (February 7, 2026) – Virginia American Water has issued a precautionary boil water advisory for 141 customers in Prince William County. The advisory impacts customers in the Princedale neighborhood who reside on the following streets: Northton Court, Princedale Drive, Photo Drive, Packard Drive, Pinwheel Circle and Orangewood Dr. To view the service area where the precautionary boil water advisory is in effect, click here.
Until further notice, impacted customers should bring tap water to a rolling boil for one minute and allow cooling before using for consumption, drinking, making baby formula, making ice, washing vegetables and fruit and for brushing teeth
DO NOT DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST.
Virginia American Water also recommends the following steps:
- Throw away uncooked food or beverages or ice cubes if made with tap water during the day of the advisory.
- Rinse hand-washed dishes for a minute in diluted bleach (one tablespoon of household bleach per gallon of tap water) or clean your dishes in a dishwasher using the hot wash cycle and dry cycle.
- Do not swallow water while you are showering or bathing.
- Do not use home filtering devices in place of boiling or using bottled water; most home water filters will not provide adequate protection from microorganisms;
- Use only boiled water (that has been cooled) to treat minor injuries.
- Upon boiling water for potable use, it is suggested that 2-3 gallons of boiled (and cooled) water be stored in the refrigerator in one-gallon containers for use in cooking, drinking, etc. Water can be stored in this manner for 2-3 days.
- Pets should be provided with drinking water that has been boiled (and cooled) in the manner indicated above.
Virginia American Water will provide information as to when the advisory is lifted and customers no longer need to boil water. It is important to note that the required subsequent water quality sampling may take 72 hours to complete, per Virginia Department of Health's regulations.
The company asks that you please share this information with others who drink this water, especially those who may not have received this notice directly (people in apartment buildings, nursing homes, schools and office buildings).
Updates will be provided on the company’s Facebook and Twitter pages as necessary. If customers have any questions, they may call 1-800-452-6863. Additional information is available on Virginia American Water’s website, www.virginiaamwater.com, under the Alerts Notifications section.
