$1.1 million in total tank investments in 2025 and 2026 to improve service reliability, maintain water pressure and strengthen fire protection in Butler County
SAXONBURG, Pa. (July 31, 2026) – Pennsylvania American Water will begin rehabilitation of its 250,000-gallon elevated water storage tank located on Saxonburg Borough municipal building property in Butler County. These upgrades, part of the company’s $17.8 million statewide storage tank improvement plan, will strengthen service reliability and allow the company to deliver consistent water pressure and provide continued protection of water quality for customers.
“Maintaining and rehabilitating water storage tanks, like this one in Saxonburg, is an efficient and cost-effective method to extend the life of critical infrastructure,” said Jake Gentile, senior director of operations for Pennsylvania American Water.
The $416,300 project involves abrasive blasting and recoating of the interior and exterior of the tank, as well as a structural support evaluation and rehabilitation. This tank was last rehabilitated approximately 25 years ago. In addition to the Pennsylvania American Water logo, the company will add “Saxonburg” to the side on the elevated tank.
Equipment staging has begun. Work will start the week of August 3, 2026, taking place Monday through Saturday between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., and is expected to be completed by the end of October. The company expects no disruptions of water service to customers.
This spring, Pennsylvania American Water also completed work on its 250,000-gallon West End storage tank in Butler Township, an $830,000 investment to continue providing customers in central Butler County with safe, reliable water service.

"These improvements help maintain consistent pressure, support fire protection and ensure we can meet customer demand – both today and into the future."
These infrastructure projects are not only an important investment in public health and safety, they also help support the economic vitality of the community. Research shows that for every $1 million invested in water infrastructure, upwards of 10 jobs are generated throughout the economy. Statewide, Pennsylvania American Water invested approximately $722 million in 2025 alone to improve its water and wastewater treatment and pipeline systems, supporting more than 7,220 jobs. The company's 2026 tank rehabilitation and construction projects will support more than 178 jobs.
