COATESVILLE, Pa. (Sept. 6, 2026) – Pennsylvania American Water issued a mandatory water conservation order for approximately 23,000 customer connections in its Coatesville water system this morning, including the city of Coatesville, Atglen, Parkesburg and South Coatesville boroughs, Caln, East Fallowfield, Highland, Valley West Brandywine and West Sadsbury townships in Chester County and Christiana and Quarryville boroughs, Bart, Colerain, Eden, and Sadsbury townships in Lancaster County. Customers are asked to temporarily limit their water use to essential purposes only, with a targeted use reduction between 10-15%.
Recent weather-related changes in local water sources have increased the amount of treatment required at the plant, placing additional demand on filtration systems and temporarily reducing treatment capacity.
Pennsylvania American Water is notifying affected customers through its automated emergency notification system. The company will provide updates, as needed, and will notify customers when the conservation order is lifted. For more information, visit pennsylvaniaamwater.com/alerts.
